Tenants Meeting

Workington  Tenants & customer  meeting November 2009
Recently we held the first meeting of the Tenants group meeting in Workington, what a turn out for a first meeting it was kind of special and great to see the turnout.
The depth of feeling for the usefulness of the group was spectacular, I personally met a number of people there for the first time but they are folk I now regard as friends.
A few `Green` issues were discussed i.e. Recycling and incidentally as a follow up to this meeting I spoke to Mr. John Somerset the recycling officer for Allerdale who is prepared to come along to a meeting and discuss any recycling issues we have.
The afternoon was rounded off by a game of Bingo the numbers ably called by Impacts very own Leprechaun Damien Morris.

The residents at the Eden Rural Foyer decided to apply for funding to the Youth opportunity Fund for a cultural trip to Edinburgh. They were successful and started the planning; here is an account of the trip by Lorna one of the Eden Rural Foyer Residents who took part.

Following on from the success of the last few years again it was a good year for Impact for Life with 6 open days.  Impact for Life would like to thank all the Tenants who have attended our days, and what is very hard to understand is why most people who are invited do not attend, because this a free day with information about Pensions Credits, Housing Benefit, Fire Service and Carers for Carers etc.  There is also a chef who does a demonstration on Healthy cooking, then a free lunch and a game of free prize bingo after lunch.  Over the last few years we have given back to our Tenants £113,315.36 in Housing Benefit, Pension Credits, Attendance Allowance and Carers Allowance.

The Project won the Active Communities Category at this years Cumbria Community Awards held at Rheged Penrith November 2008

Get Involved Impact's 30th Anniversary celebration

Do you want to be more involved?

Our Board is looking at membership. We have 8 tenants and residents involved in our Board and Committees. We have another 20 involved in various workgroups and panels. And we have hundreds who are involved in various community groups that we help to support and who come along to our annual Tenants, Residents and Service Users Day. Finally, over half of you regularly fill in feedback forms and questionnaires to help us do our jobs better. For all of this, many thanks.
However, we are always looking for new interest. Have you ever thought of becoming more involved in Impact? Would you like to have a chat about what you could contribute? I think that those people who are involved get a lot out of it- and they’re no different to you!
If you’re interested, speak to any member of staff. Or give Jane Hall a ring on 01900 842138.
I’m sure you’ll find that you have a lot to offer!

(Chair of the Board)

What is Resident Involvement?

Resident involvement is your opportunity to get your views heard and shape the service you receive.

We value your views and offer you a variety of ways to have your say.

By offering a broad range of activities and events we aim to take into account the views of as many residents as possible before making decisions.

How can I be involved?

There are many ways that you can be involved and these don’t always mean having to come to meetings.  Here are some examples

Will it interest me? Can I make a Difference?

We would like to hear from you. Whatever way you choose to be involved we will value your input. You choose or create the type of involvement that interests you and we will work with you. It’s Your Choice

Residents are central to what Impact does and we are keen for all residents to contribute.

We will use your views and comments to improve existing services and shape what we provide in the future.

Being Involved

We can offer you the support and advice needed to get involved. This includes help with childcare costs, travel costs, help with fundraising and any this else you feel will be useful.

Getting involved is

You can learn new skills, meet new people and have a real impact on our services.

Who do I contact?

For a chat about resident involvement contact any member of staff or our Co-ordinator, Damien Morris on 01228 633630 or email him on Damienm@impacthousing.org.uk

Community and Youth Development

“Young people are more likely to achieve positive outcomes when they develop ambitious, achievable aspirations, combined with self esteem, self efficacy, information and aspiration they need to persevere towards their goals”. Bridging social capital. (Putnam, 1995).
The CYD team develop projects which support the development of young people to realise their ambitions. The communities in which we work and the young people we work with face a number of issues, together we hope we can address these. More details here
