Supported Accommodation for Homeless Men

"What is Supported Accommodation for Men?”
Supported accommodation for homeless men consists of two projects. Bridge lane offers support for 16 men. Lindisfarne Street offers support for 10 men. Impact Housing Association runs both projects.

“What kind of accommodation do you offer?”
Bridge Lane has 15 bedrooms which is broken up into 3 units, all with communal lounge, kitchen area bathroom and toilet.  There is also a semi-independent flat within the project.

Also run from the project are some move-on properties where residents have usually moved on from the main project. In addition there is also a 3 bedroomed house for alcoholic men.

Lindisfarne Street has 10 bedrooms over 2 floors. Each floor has a communal lounge, kitchen, bathroom and toilet. There is a 5 bedroomed move on house, which is staffed, from Monday to Friday.

“How long can I stay in the projects, and how long until I get a place of my own?”
We say that our accommodation is temporary, the length of time that you can stay could be anything up to Two years. We help our residents to identify when they are ready for move on and make referrals to the appropriate agencies.

“How much will it cost me to stay in a project?”
The current rent is different over the projects. The bulk of the rent is paid by housing benefit the shortfall will be paid by you. You will be provided with a key when you move into one of the projects, if you lose the key we ask that you pay for a replacement.

“What's included in my rent?”
A single furnished room, with a fridge, heating, lighting and shared bathroom, kitchen and communal lounge. Also included in your rent is the support and advice offered to all residents by the staff team. You are expected to provide your own meals.

“Who do I go to if I need support or advice?”
You will be allocated a keyworker who will provide support and assistance during your stay and eventually move on in to your own accommodation.

“What kind of support can I expect from my keyworker?”
You can expect that the support you will be offered will be based on your needs. Some of the support we provide is:

Budgeting, cooking, relationships, child contact, advise on drug and alcohol misuse. We work with other agencies on your behalf and refer you for independent accommodation. We also offer resettlement work through our floating support team based at Nelson street 01228 633628/ 633629

“Can I have visitors?”
If you move to Bridge Lane you can have 2/3 visitors at any one time between the hours of 9am and 11pm. We ask that you take responsibility for your guests. Overnight guests are permitted twice a week, but you must notify a member a staff prior to their stay. You must also let staff know if you are going to be away for any length of time, as we may have to close your room if we feel you no longer require support. Lindisfarne Street does not allow any guests, however close family or other networks can visit, but please let staff know.

“Are their any rules I have to abide by?”
Yes - you will get this on application.

Is alcohol allowed on the premises?”
Yes. We allow our residents to drink alcohol in their own rooms.
