Housing with Support for Young People

Close Street Project is a specially converted house for single homeless young people.  The residents of the house will have been homeless, potentially homeless or in housing need.

The become a resident of the project the young person will need to be referred to the project.  It will consider referrals from single people aged between 16 and 24 years of age.  The Project will take referrals from statutory and voluntary agencies.

The project has a full range of modern facilities.  There are eight bedrooms with shared bathrooms, toilets and a communal living room.  In addition the residents enjoy the use of a fully equipped kitchen to enable them to prepare their own food.  There is also washing machine, tumble dryer and ironing facilities.

The staff team provide a service seven days and seven nights.  Each resident is assigned a key-worker who will on a one-to-one basis help residents to make informed choices.

  • Legal Advice
  • Social Fund
  • College Training & Job Prospects
  • Money Management
  • Health Matters
  • All Housing Issues

Residents rights are outlined in the licence agreement and in the Residents Charter.  Copies area available from the Project.

We value each and every resident.  The project serves to consult , include, respect and support young people.  The project endeavours to provide self esteem and self respect amongst its residents at the same time ensuring that each individual is aware of their rights and responsibilities.

There is a resettlement service to enable the smooth transfer of residents into independent living.

The Floating Support Worker will meet support needs of the tenancy during the initial period of the tenancy.

Women's Aid - Carlisle
    

This project is devoted solely to women and children experiencing or having experienced domestic violence.  It provides safe accommodation, practical help and support.

The refuge is a seven bedroomed house which is able to accommodate seven women and up to eleven children.  It is staffed with three refuge workers who are able to give advice on benefits, medical care, legal assistance, children's education and re-housing.

There is a full time play worker and a well equipped play room.  The play worker holds formal play sessions with the younger children and teaches life skills with the older children .  She is also there to give advice and support to mothers with child care issues.

There is an outreach worker to assist woman as they move on from the refuge and back into the community.  The Outreach Worker can provide information options and support for women experiencing domestic abuse but which to remain in their own homes.  She helps alleviate the isolation often felt by the woman and gives a sense that someone is available if required - someone who understands are cares.

In addition to the specialist workers and safe accommodation the project also benefits from Impact Housings other services e.g. floating support and resettlement help.

The person on the end of the help line can listen, give advice and guide people to enable them to make their own choices.  Alternatively, we can offer accommodation and we also have an Outreach Worker which can meet with victims of domestic violence to discuss what their options are.  We have knowledge of benefits, injunctions, childcare and health issues.
