Record of Outcomes
Tuesday, 17th April 9.30 a.m. to 12.30 p.m.
Once again we have had a tremendous response to our offer of use of skips and recycling, and disposal of rubbish.
Last year we had three skips and a crunch wagon around the estate which was a resounding success. This year we had included an extra skip at a new site.
Tenants threw out 6 skips fulls of rubbish. That equates to 72 cubic metres of rubbish. We had to have two extra skips delivered to cope with the demand. We also had a Crunch wagon from Allerdale Borough Council that called at 20 properties on the following Saturday morning for a one-off collection at Allerdale’s expense.
Wednesday, 18th April 10.00 a.m. – 12.00 noon
50 residents attended the morning.
This was the day for recycling and a fair trade coffee morning with Organic and Fair Trade snacks. Centre 47 came to the morning and we had tenants donating furniture for collection. The centre 47 staff had a chance to talk to residents about their service.
Representatives from the Residents Green Group were there to fill in questionnaires in exchange for 4 free energy saving light bulbs, this means we gave out 200 free energy saver bulbs to residents. 50 questionnaires/quizzes were completed. The intention of the questionnaires were to raise awareness of energy efficiency and recycling as well as a bit of fun. Residents would score between 0 – 30 points depending on how well they are doing (30 being the best). We had five categories:-
20 – 24 points |
Nearly there! You show a real willingness to live as wasteless as possible but could improve. It’s a great effort. |
15 – 19 points |
You definitely “Do your bit” but could do much better. |
10 – 14 points |
You don’t really try hard enough. Come on, you know you should, don’t you! |
Under 10 points |
Oh dear! You should really start to look at the bigger picture before it’s too late. |
Results are as follows:-
Under 10 |
10 - 14 |
15 – 19 |
20 - 24 |
25 – 30 |
1 resident |
2 residents |
16 residents |
28 residents |
3 residents |
2% |
4% |
32% |
56% |
6% |
This shows out of 50 residents 94% were environmentally aware and did their bit with regard to energy efficiency and recycling.
Salterbeck Area Reps and Lisa Jackson, the Police Community Support Officer also attended to give residents a chance to ask any questions they may have had or to discuss any environmental issues on their street. This could have been about litter being dropped, dog poo, or anti-social behaviour.
In summary
Both days were extremely well attended. All those who attended made a positive contribution to keeping their local environment a safer and cleaner place to live. We will be repeating the project later in the year.
