Impact Goes Greener

Impact takes Environmental issues very seriously we are already committed to economic sustainability and have had a number of schemes in place for some time now. These include
- Three furniture recycling sites (see our Services section of the website for more information)
- Using only Fairtrade products in our offices and in our cafes
- Employing an Environmental Officer
- Using environmentally frienldy office equipment such as TFT Monitors, low energy light bulbs and recycled paper
- Environmental performance indicators for our offices - a "switch it off" policy!
One of Impact's highest priorities this year is to further improve our Environmental agenda. This involves not only staff but our tenants, local communities and those we work with too. Together we hope to make a real difference. We have the following activities across the organisation.
- A tenants 'green group' drawn from across all of our stock, developing an action plan for the future
- Examining opportunities for improving our older stock so that tenants can reduce their energy and water consumption
- Identifying the 'cost in use' for our older homes so that
people can make an informed choice when they are offered a tenancy
- Exploring the opportunities for using biomass to heat our rural properties
- Building new homes to Eco Homes standards
- Working with tenants in Thirlmere to look at the long term sustainability of their community including alternative energy options
- Growth in furniture recycling and developing a west coast operation
- Office champions working on reducing waste, energy and water consumption
- A staff travel review reporting in April will set a cap on CO2 emissions
- Work with Salterbeck Residents Association on an integrated green project for the area
