IMPACT HOUSING ASSOCIATION MERGES WITH THE RIVERSIDE GROUP LTD

Impact Housing Association has transferred its operations to The Riverside Group Ltd, one of the country’s biggest housing providers.

Impact, which manages 2,800 homes for social rent in Cumbria and North Lancashire joined Riverside as an independent subsidiary in August 2018. Last year, it said that due to a number of financial challenges, it was proposing to go further and merge with Riverside sooner than planned.

After gaining support from its tenants and following a positive vote from shareholders in February, Impact legally transferred to Riverside on 31 March 2020.

As part of the merger, Impact will continue to operate under its current name for the time being and the Impact Board will become a sub-committee of Riverside, representing the interests of former Impact tenants.

Mark Cullinan, Chair of Impact, commented:

“We’re delighted that the merger is going ahead. It means that we can protect staff jobs and continue to provide high-quality services to tenants across the region. It will be very much business as usual as we continue to work with our partners to bring positive change to the communities we serve.

“Our relationship with Riverside has already brought a number of benefits for our tenants, including a £25 million housing investment programme. This ambitious project, which is now well underway, is providing warmer, more modern homes for tenants. Whilst we have reluctantly had to suspend these works during the current coronavirus crisis, we remain committed to resuming them as soon as it is safe to do so.

“I would like to thank our staff, tenants, shareholders and partners for their continued support throughout the transition period. We now look forward to delivering our business objectives, which include developing new services and creating more opportunities for tenants to improve their lives.”

Impact got support from its tenants through a six-week consultation process, in November and December last year. Around 85.5% of those who took part in the consultation were positive about the merger. A shareholders’ Special General meeting followed in January and February 2020 which resulted in an overwhelmingly positive vote from Shareholders of 93.33% in favour.

**Please find update** below regarding action to take for tenants in the letter sent to all tenants regarding the Transfer of Engagements – we hope this assists with any queries.  We have also uploaded the letter sent to all tenants along with the feedback on consultation which can be found on the right hand side of this page.

Please note there is an administrative error on the letter with regard to the % vote in favour of the transfer.  We can confirm the figure should read 93.33% not 99.33%, however this does not change the overwhelming vote in favour for the transfer.  We apologize for the administrative error.

*Tenants update regarding Transfer of Engagements letter *

WE CAN NOW CONFIRM THERE IS NO ACTION FOR YOU TO TAKE, REGARDING NOTIFIYING YOUR HOUSING BENEFIT DEPARTMENT AS ARRANGEMENTS HAVE BEEN MADE  TO NOTIFY THEM ON YOUR BEHALF AND THEY WILL CONTINUE TO PROCESS PAYMENTS IN THE BRAND NAME OF IMPACT HOUSING (WHICH IS A TRADING NAME OF THE RIVERSIDE GROUP LTD).

WE HAVE ALSO NOTIFIED THE DEPARTMENT OF WORK AND PENSIONS ABOUT THE TRANSFER OF ENGAGEMENTS WITH REGARD TO UNIVERSAL CREDIT CLAIMS.  YOU MAY NEED TO PROVIDE EVIDENCE TO THE DWP REGARDING THIS AND WOULD EXPECT THAT THIS WOULD BE REQUESTED VIA YOUR JOURNAL IF THIS IS THE CASE.
