South Lakes Foyer Celebrate the Oscars
On Monday 25th February South Lakes Foyer and the rest of Impact’s South Lakes Young People’s Service came together to recognise the achievements of young people living in Kendal and Ulverston. There was also an array of talent on show for the evening with dancing and music provided by young people. The event was attended by young people, staff, volunteers and representatives from agencies that support our work such as Cumbria Constabulary, Cumbria Fire & Rescue, Inspira and Kendal College.
The Oscar awards acknowledged the involvement of young people in the activities & Life skills sessions, Community Involvement, Best Photos from an activity, Bravest Tenants and Individual Achievements. Ian Irwin, Former Team GB Olympic Boxing Coach, presented the awards for Community Involvement. In addition volunteers and partners received a special thank you for all their hard work and commitment to the service.
Tim Farron MP presented awards to a group of young people who have organised a number of activities for their peers. The organisation of activities not only results in a great day out… but also in the development of useful and often new skills such as budgeting, risk assessments, time management, planning and evaluations. Over recent months this group of young people have planned horse riding lessons, an outdoor activities day and bowling trips. Overall, lifeskills and activities are an important part of the service provided as each offer young people opportunities to develop skills and knowledge to prepare for moving on and living independently. In addition activities allow young people to develop social skills, team building, confidence building and come together to have a great time.
The evening was expertly hosted by Claire Willett, Area Manager from Inspira and everyone enjoyed a post Oscars buffet in the Resource Centre at South Lakes Foyer.
