Oval Centre Hub Launch!

The Oval Centre, Salterbeck Workington celebrated their newly refurbished community hub on Friday 30th January 2015.

This was an exciting & vibrant day with live music from the Gentleman of Jazz.  Local residents, Impact tenants and the wider community came together to find out about the opportunity’s on offer, such as training, money matters & IT advice, as well as how to report a repair and pay your rent. The hub also offers advice and guidance on: Social media, health, benefits, energy saving, your home, education, leisure and employment and offers volunteering opportunities.

The celebration also marked 2 significant milestones for Workington and Impact. A presentation to Tony Cunningham MP took place, where a montage of pictures from Tony’s association with Salterbeck and the Oval centre. Tony was also presented with a picture of the 1953/54 season, which saw the saltebeck football team play at the highest level, where Tony’s father played a significant role.

The association also bid farewell to Keith Dobson, after 21 years with the organisation. Keith, director of asset & homes, was presented with a montage from his year with the association after being thanked by Mike Muir, Impact Chief Executive.

This was followed by drinks and buffet down in the Oval centre cafe, leading into the conference room & lounge where partners including, West Lakes Colleague provided portraits, cake design and advice on further education. Inspira, Citizens advice, age UK, Cumbria Switch and the Ovals very own community engagement team pulled together to offer child friendly activities, including face painting and paint pouring.

The event also gave the opportunity for local residents to cast an opinion on which design they preferred for the new walker road play area. Salterbeck residents also had the opportunity to enter into a prize draw, which saw one lucky winner take home a brand new apple ipad, others won prizes such as, 6 months free Oval gym membership, free meals in the café.
