HOLLYWOOD STYLE CEREMONY TO CELEBRATE SUCCESS OF KENDAL’S YOUNG PEOPLE
THE glitz and glamour of Hollywood’s Oscars came to Kendal on Monday as the achievements of the town’s young people were recognised. As the stars of Hollywood lined up to collect their Academy Awards on Sunday, an alternative Oscars Ceremony took place at South Lakes Foyer in Kendal. The red carpet was rolled out for the group of award winners who are all aged between 16 and 24 and residents of Impact Housing.
On Monday 23rd February, Impact Housing hosted their third annual celebration event. Academy award-style statuettes were presented to the tenants for a wide range of categories including Outstanding Achievement, Community Involvement and Rising to the Challenge for their achievements over the past 12 months.
South Lakes Foyer offers accommodation for 35 young people, age 16-24, who are considered homeless or at risk of homelessness within supported accommodation provided by Impact Housing in South Lakeland. These include two sites in Kendal and one in Ulverston. South Lakes Foyer offers accommodation homeless or at risk homeless young people aged between 16 - 25 who are actively working towards achieving their goals and aspirations.
Jo Scarlett, Service Manager, said “it was so inspiring to be involved in the event and relive all the amazing achievements that young people have made over the last 12 months. Events such as this are vital in empowering young people, enhancing self-esteem and developing aspirations – all of which is key to moving on to independent living, the ultimate goal of our Foyer service.”
The ceremony, funded by Kendal Town Council, was attended by Impact Housing’s board of directors, course leaders from Kendal College and representatives from South Lakeland CAB & Cumbria Constabulary. Incoming High Sheriff of Cumbria Sam Rayner came to support the young people receiving their awards.
