Gas Service

BE SAFE.  BE RESPONSIBLE.

By Law we must carry out a gas safety inspection on the gas appliances in your home every year.  It is your responsibility to allow us into your home to carry out this service.  Your tenancy may be at risk if you do not allow us access.

CONTACT US IMMEDIATELY IF YOU HAVE NOT HAD A GAS SERVICE CARRIED OUT IN THE LAST 12 MONTHS– TELEPHONE 03448 736 290.

What is a gas service?

As a responsible landlord Impact Housing Association instruct our Gas Engineer (registered with Gas Safe) to carry out a safety inspection on your gas appliances every 12 months. The reason is to ensure that your heating appliance is working correctly and that you are kept safe.

Carbon Monoxide – the silent killer

Carbon monoxide is produced by appliances which are badly installed, not maintained properly or do not have adequate ventilation. Carbon Monoxide is invisible and has no smell or taste.  Small amounts can lead to a variety of serious health problems including brain damage. About 30 people a year die from carbon monoxide poisoning related to gas appliances and many more suffer from the symptoms of carbon monoxide poisoning.

How to stay safe

Make sure you know where the main gas valve is (usually beside the meter) and how to turn it off in an emergency.

If you think you can smell gas:

  • DONT turn electric switches on or off
  • DONT smoke or strike matches
  • DONT use naked flames
  • DO turn off the gas supply at the meter
  • DO open all doors and windows to get rid of the gas
  • DO check to see if the gas valve has been turned on accidentally
  • DO check if a ring on the cooker or pilot light has been blown out.
  • DO call the National Gas Emergency Service (open 24hrs a day) on 0800 111 999.
