Eden Foyer recieves Innovation award

Eden Rural Foyer has received the honour of being approved for a Full Transformational Innovation Mark Award from the Foyer Federation.

Eden Foyer is the only Foyer in the country to have received the full award and this has been presented to us  for our collaborative work with Young People, and community partners on our fantastic and creative Health programme.

The programme focussed on three areas for development which were:

Healthy Eating, Physical Activities and Mental & Emotional Wellbeing.

Throughout this project, the Young People have accessed a fantastic range of opportunities.

These have included:-

  • Nutritional and healthy eating taster sessions and advice.
  • Partnership working with the local Leisure Centre to use the gym and swimming pool.
  • Wii Fit sessions
  • Visits to local elderly sheltered housing schemes to share skills
  • Developing a garden area to provide fresh vegetables and herbs to the Foyer Café.
  • Walking in the Lake District
  • Climbing and Ghyll Scrambling
  • Mental & Emotional Wellbeing advice sessions

The aims and objectives of the programme were to empower Young People, whatever their ability or circumstances to take part in, and enjoy, physical activity.  By promoting Young Peoples’ health, safety and wellbeing we have enabled the Young People to build confidence with a desire to improve and enjoy - whilst raising their aspirations.

The programme has been hugely successful, and has been embedded into the day to day work with the residents, and also has promoted a collaborative way of working with partnership groups and the local community.

A celebration event was held on Saturday 19thMarch 2011, when Jane Slowey, Chief Executive of the Foyer Federation presented the official award.  Rory Stewart, MP presented the certificates to the Young People involved.

Mike Muir, Impact Housing Association Chief Executive said

“We were delighted to host the Foyer Federation visit and our Young People were very keen to talk to Rory Stewart about their great successes.”
