ENHANCING THE AREA
 
 
Impact Housing Association has been involved with Allerdale Borough Council in looking at enhancing the Wilson Street and Curwen Street areas in Workington. This would be to encourage greater use by pedestrians whilst respecting and improving the heritage aspects of the streets.
The two properties on Wilson Street are currently derelict and in dangerous condition, acquisition and refurbishment of these properties would greatly enhance the area. 
The property on Curwen Street once refurbished could then be sold on.

Part of Wilson Street would be refurbished with an extension to provide 2 flats, this would be funded by the Housing Corporation.
The remainder of Wilson Street would be refurbished to provide office accommodation and a cafe and would be funded through the Heritage Grant, SRB and ourselves.
Allerdale Borough Council are keen to see this scheme progressed as Wilson Street is the Gateway between the retail and conservation areas. Development of this scheme would reflect the architectural theme of the conservation area and enhance the vitality of the street, bringing previously derelict and dangerous buildings back into commercial and domestic use.
