Green Fingered

Residents at our Lindisfarne Street Project for homeless men now have an allotment. Well there is an allotment underneath the long grass, carpets etc that are there at the moment!!  The guys have started work clearing the allotment, which really had begun to resemble a jungle. The other allotment holders have greeted the guys warmly and we’ve discovered some of the residents are quite green-fingered. The men have sold this year’s crop of rhubarb produced on the allotment to raise money for next year’s seeds. 

As the project worker says ‘the plot is in its early stages but the aim is to give people something to do which will also provide them with some fresh fruit and vegetables’.
