Supported Accommodation for Women Fleeing Domestic Violence

What is the project about?

The aim of the project is to provide housing with support for women and children escaping domestic abuse. The refuge has 7 bedrooms, with a communal lounge, kitchen and two bathrooms.

Lifeline is our outreach service that provides support and advice for women in Carlisle and the rural areas who wish to remain in their own homes, but who are  working towards a life free from abuse.

What kind of support is available?

Staffing house are Monday through to Friday 24 hour cover.  Weekends is night cover only. Each resident will have an individual support plan that meets their needs.  They will be allocated a support worker, who will work with them and help them to make informed choices on issues that are important to them

This may include

• Benefits Advice
• Money management
• Health Issues
• Legal problems/court proceedings
• Accessing leisure/community facilities
• Housing Issues

The aim of the support plan is to encourage women to gain independence and regain control over their lives.

Staff will support all women in the choices they make and will help them find permanent accommodation if appropriate.  The floating support service is available to make sure the tenancy is maintained.

 How do I refer to the project?

We accept referrals from all voluntary and statutory agencies.  Women can also refer themselves. We aim to accept all referrals,   however we may be unable to consider referrals for women who are

• Experiencing severe mental health problems
• Abusing alcohol or drugs
• Schedule one offenders
• Arsonists or whose children are arsonists

In deciding on who to house, we will take into account the needs of the potential resident and balance this with the need to maintain a safe and secure environment for everyone.

Residents Rights

Each woman is housed under the terms and conditions of a licence agreement.  Their rights are set out in this agreement and in the Residents Charter we give out when they move in.

We are committed to consulting with and involving residents in, the planning and delivery of a high quality housing and support service.

We value each resident as an individual and promote mutual respect, both of themselves and others, within our schemes.
