GIGA-BITES café
Customers enjoying the food and internet at the cyber cafe

In the past 2 years Giga-Bites has gone from strength to strength and we would like to thank all of the staff and volunteers who have helped and supported us.

The Foyer team have managed to turn an under used cafe into one of the best and highly regarded eating establishments in Penrith.  Few restaurants, let alone cafés, offer fresh homemade fare for such value for money prices.

When was the last time you sat down at home or in a hotel or restaurant and dined on freshly made pasta or homemade sausages?   When was the last time you had a sandwich in bread baked an hour before and filled with warm carved home roasted honey and garlic baked ham?  We even make our own ¼ lb burgers and the bread buns they come in and we have just started smoking our own meats.  We are now selling our own homemade sausages and bread.

Our salads and vegetables are purchased from an organic farm in Grange-Over-Sands and we buy as much of our food as possible from the local farm shop and local suppliers.  The flour we use for our bread comes from a  water-powered flourmill just outside of Penrith and all our meats come from livestock reared within Cumbria. We had this policy long before “food miles”  became the “in phrase”.

We also introduced Fair-trade coffee and teas to Impact Housing, a policy we have now expanded to cover all our hot beverages, sugars and juices.   Most of the cake recipes we use are traditional Cumbrian.

Watch out for our new menu soon.
(Yes, to everyone who requested/demanded/picketed the front door, sticky toffee pudding will make a triumphal return)
