Access to our Services

What if you want to use one of Impact’s services but feel that you can’t because you have difficulties with the written word, the spoken word or maybe English is not your first language?
Impact has things in place that can help you to access our services, along with improving the physical access to our buildings.
Documents in other formats
If you read Braille, if you need letters and documents in bigger print, or if you are used to having talking documents on tape or CD then we can do this.
More and more Impact documents are available off the shelf in these formats, but we can get any document converted within a matter of days.
If you need it, please ask us and we will arrange it.
Languageline
Impact subscribes and uses Languageline. This is a service that offers fast access to a telephone interpreter service in over 100 languages. It can be used to translate when someone is with an Impact staff member or when we are receiving or making a telephone call to a person who does not speak English. All staff know how to use the service and details and help leaflets are available in all offices and schemes.
Typetalk
If you are a Textphone or Minicom user, then you will be familiar with Typetalk. Please use it to contact any Impact phone number by putting 18001 in front of the number you want to use. All staff know about Typetalk and how to use it, for both incoming and outgoing phone calls.
British Sign Language Interpreter Service
Do you use BSL? If you do, then Impact can book a BSL translator through Cumbria Deaf to assist a face to face meeting. Also, when we hold residents’ meetings we will always ask if any one attending needs a BSL translator. If they do, please let us know and we will make sure one is there.
Hearing Loops
All Impact reception areas have fixed induction loops to ensure that hearing aid wearers can use the T setting on their hearing aid to hear the staff member better. Also, all offices, schemes and staff who work in people’s homes have portable induction loops that can be used anywhere. If this would be of benefit to you, please let us know.
Most importantly, if you need any help, please ask. Any Impact staff member will be willing to spend time in the office, on the phone or at your home to explain our services and how you can access them.
Physical Access
We have been using a company to carry out Accessibility Audits on all our locations which have access to the general public.
We are currently looking at the improvements that we can make to ensure our buildings are as accessible as possible to a wide range of people.
Call us or pop into our Head Office for further information on any of these services.
